Social Media Sport Support

Did you happen to catch the game yesterday? Me too. In fact, it seems like every Canadian that could find their way to a T.V. watched Sidney Crosby’s game-winning overtime goal. This was more than just one hockey game. It was an event that unified an entire country for one Sunday afternoon.

After Team Canada won the game, I noticed that pretty much everyone’s Facebook status was now changed to something along the lines of “CANADA WINS GOLD!”, “WHOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!” or “The Kid Gets It Done!! What A Game! How Bout Those Canadians Eh.”

With all this madness happening, I stumbled upon a page dedicated to the WINNING GOAL, appropriately titled “Crosby’s Olympic Goal ♥”.  The volume of people joining this page blew my mind. Within an hour it had 60,000 fans, jumping to 95,000 in two hours and now, the morning after, it has 170,000 + people  — and it’s still growing.

This amazes me, and just goes to show how technologically connected the world is and how fast the country has come together to show its support.
