Igor Meets Social Media

Posted by: Christine Howse

“Turn on your iPhones and Blackberries and tweet or facebook all your friends and tell them to donate…”

Yup – social media is deep into the fundraising game.

While attending an AMAZING concert for Igor relief in NL this week it struck me – social media is changing the face of fundraising in a BIG way.

In the past, our media options for promoting such an event had a relatively limited reach – typically, the traditional media within the province did not go beyond our coastline. Now, with the help of the Internet and social media, our cause was brought to the attention of people across the globe… and boy did they donate!

An hour into the show the host, Seamus O’Reagan had already announce that they were at the half million mark and still growing strong. Donations were coming in from Newfoundlanders & Labradorians and friends, from Twillingate to Tokyo, all in support of the flood victims of Hurricane Igor.

Miss the show? Don’t worry – you can still access the website to make an online donation here.

To the astounding performers and endless talent in this province – Bravo!
