Every touchpoint creates your brand impression!

Posted by: Kevin Casey

Each and everyday for the past 4 weeks I drove by this gas station/convenience store near my house and wondered when someone would step up and just fix the damn thing.

Let’s see, 4 weeks for someone to step outside their job as a clerk or a gas pumper. Guessing it could be 4 shifts a day, 2 people a shift… that’s 8 people x 28 days = 224 opportunities for someone coming into their shift to say “I gotta fix that sign, it looks bad.”

Why didn’t it happen?

  • “It’s not my job.”
  • “It’s not in the job description when I applied here.”
  • “The next person will do it.”

Everything you do communicates something about your brand. Your worst employee on his or her worst day, or the sign that just implies you’re unorganized and really don’t care.

I’m not sure of the answer. I went to the other gas station down the road who had milk on sale for $3.29 (It said so on the clearly lit and properly detailed sign outside).

A sign of the times?

It’s actually better if someone’s come along and changed it to something bawdy like the take-out restaurant sign I was advertising 3x large cock. At least that was memorable.

That would be “I saw”. Sigh.

Well Kevin Iam glad to see you haven’t worn out your new phone taking the pictures.
As to this sign I say it was forgotten about while the station has been under construction.
You are right people are getting lazy all around us and a lot of people can’t think for themselfs, but in these lower paid jobs the empolyees field if they are not told by Management they don’t need to do it. People are in the same mind for sure if the light bulb is out at my desk for the past 2 days thats for maintance not for me to fix even though I might have called maintance for the past 3 days about it instead of getting off my ass and going over to the closet and getting a light blub to fix it myself. I call this the union effect were everyone is afraid to help the other guy out for been afraid of getting in shit for it.
And example of this is when I worked on a job years ago and watched a couple of guys sit and talk about how to put a piece of pipe in place all one morning so when they went to lunch I got a couple of the boys that wasn’t union and put it in place so all they had to do was tighten the bolts oh stupid me when they came back they shut the hole job down for 4 hours to complain.

It does appeal to the Wheel of Fortune fan in all of us. But now the suspense is killing me. Just how much are they anyway. Could be avant garde covert marketing techniques. You’re in the circle or you’re a wannabe outsider looking in.

what I find hilarious is when you call around to get a few quotes for say…2 new propane fireplaces installed for your home and nobody returns your calls

this has happened to me on several occasions with dry-wallers and windows too…sign of the times?

It IS amazing how many owners/managers do not understand how much even little details, and the attitude of employees, reflects on the brand. Enjoyed your post. Cheers.
