No Text is Worth Dying Over
So, I am not a purist by any means.
I AM that person at a red light that checks the Blackberry for a text and responds… and what feels like a five-second procedure is interrupted by a horn blaring behind me for missing the 13 flashing arrows and, subsequently, the chance to make that left turn.
Denial. Won’t happen again.
Stuck in traffic? Good time to catch up on emails. Time management shortcut.
Slow moving traffic? Acceptable time to quickly reply with a “on the way….” to a late meeting.
It’s only a few seconds.
I am not alone.
As I look left and right, I see it. And I am not talking 20–year–olds. I am talking soccer moms and Canadian–Tire–going–Saturday–morning–guys. Texting…. texting…. texting… and occasionally driving.
This isn’t an issue. I think its an epidemic.
And who’s going to admit after an accident, “Well officer, I was just finishing a ‘what are ya at?’ text and then – slam!”?
Anyway, this ad by AT&T shocked me and instantly made me reflect.
I need to change. It’s a first step.
Pass this along to someone else who thinks they are invincible to the texting–and–driving trap.
It happened to Mariah West. It can happen to you.
Or to someone you love.

Thanks Kevin…I think most of us are guilty of this and you are absolutely right…it’s just not worth it!
Awesome post Kevin. What did we do before the cell phone or goodness forbid the blackberry?…we had to wait until we got there to communicate (in person no less) with our intended recipient. Unfortunately we are in a society that can’t seem to wait. Everything is escalated to the level of urgency that it has to be responded to immediately. Instant gratification. The sad part is that someone’s need for instant gratification may end up taking their own, or someone elses, life.
Hard habit to break . Reached for berry at red light tonight and caught myself. Allison …was that you next to me ready to bust me and the blog!!!!!!!
